BROOKSIDE PARISH.
The annual meeting of parishioners of* St. Luke's, Brooksidc, was heid ni Thursday evening, the vicar (Rev. j\ Jones, 8.A.) presiding. The balancesheet showed a credit of £29 7s. The committco were re-elected, and Mr F. Pierson was re-appointed secretary. Votes of thanks were passed to the ladies who hnd l»ept the church clean, viz., Misses Stephens and Oliver, and to Messrs ,T\ Pierson and A. E. Withell. After the formal business of the meeting ended, the vienr referred to tho fact that the day for the meeting had been chosen because it was Mr Lovell's 90th birthday. Mr I.oveil's memory could go hack to the days when railways were an unknown means of transport, and when New Zealand itself was almost unknown. Ever since the Brookside Church had been built Mr Lorell hnd taken :i very keen interest in its welfare, and had lovingly laboured in the church during thai time. The Brookside people were proud to have him in their midst, and they hoped that he would stilJ have many years of life before him. The vicar then presented liim with if small pur=e. and Mr Lorell having suitably responded. the meeting closcd.
