CAMPAIGN NOTES.

Interest in the Grey by-election is rapidly warming up. Tho" miners at Runanga and Blackball are so confident of Mr Holland's success that they are willing to give five hundred votes in.
The supporters of Mr Coat-cs are not so aggressive in their assertions of their belief, but there is a of quiet confidence that tho conscription advocate will secure a win.
The "Star," in its editorial columns, has done vcoman service for Mr Coates, and has brought upon tho editor a violent personal attack, but Mr Holland lias mado no nttomnt to answer tho criticism to which he has been subjected. It is rumoured, however, that Mr Holland has threatened an action for libel against the "Star" for an article appearing in Thursday night's issue. "He demands an apology within twonty-four hours, but this ultimatum has been ignored. Tt is understood that the Hon. T. M. "Wilford will visit the C-flst shortly, and Mr Holland will probably he reinforced bv Messrs Powell and Walker.
' Everything indicates that there will be a heavy poll. The West Coast takes politics very seriously.
