SUCCESSES AT COMPETITIONS,
At the recent Musical and Elocutionary Competitions held in Christchurch, the following pupils of the Convent, Lower High 'street, conducted by the Sisters of the Mission, were successful:
Piano J>uet, under 10: Ist prize, Marie and Joan "Wilson; 2nd prize, Muriel Htirmen and Molly Overton. Piano Solo, under 13: Highly commendedj Madeline Kennedy. Piano Duet, undpf" 13: 2nd prize, Jessie Rosewarne and Helena Keane; 3rd prize, Zita Power and Elma Elder. Piano Solo, under 16 .* Ist prize, Elsio Ives; 2nd prize, Muriel Johns; highly commended, Nina Evans. Piano Duet, under 16: 2nd prize, Elsie Ives and Mavis Falconer; 3rd prize, Eva Mellish and Valarie Anderson.
Song, under 16; 3rd prize, Elsie Ives. Piano Solo," under 18: Ist prize, Gwitha' Young. Piano solo, own selection: 2nd prize, Kitty Murphy'; 3rd prize, Ada Joyce. Under the decision of the Judge of the Central Appeal Court at Ottawa the end of March, disallowing tho appeal of bank clerks for exemption from military service on the ground of special occupation, 2600 bank" clerks will bo callcd to tho colours.
