OPAWA SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At the last meeting' of the Opawa School Committee tho headmaster reported that the roll numbers were 189 boys and 172 girls with average attendance of 178 boys and IGS girls. It was agreed to have an historical print entitled "Farewell to Nelson " presented by one of the pulpils, framed. A Works and Visiting Committee was formed consisting of Mes3w Pycroft, Adams, Butler' and Rich. Messrs Pycroft and Parrell were appointed delegates to tho School Committees' Association. The eecrptary was instructed to write a letter of f.ink* for pest services to the retiring members, Messrs McHarg, King, Schneider, Beanland, and leans, and also a letter of sympathy to £ n cT eI V of Heathcoto Valley School, in tho loss of liis son, who died of wounds in England.

SCOTTISH SOCIETY. The opening gathering of the new season of „bo Scottish Society took place last ni"Jit when there was a large attendance at tho Society s rooms. Mr A. W. McGiUivray was re-elected chief and the following chieftains wero eleot-ed:—Messrs R. R. Smith A Clnrkand S. McDonald. The chief extended a welcome to the large audience and expressed the hope tnat the season just entered upon would be as successful as past seasons. During the evening songs were given bv Mm R. McDonald, Miss Marshall, and Mr A R McDonald; recitations by Mrs Hush \f/ Leod, Mr S. McDonald, and Hughie HuntHighland dances were danced bv the Miowi Brackenridge (3), the Misses Buist (4), Miss ,Rita Hands, and members of the juvenile dancing class; and a jig was danced by Miss Elsie Colhster. Selections on the war pipes were played by Piper McAlister. A short dance concluded ihe evening's pleasure. i
