TEE ASSAULT ON FEILDING OLERGYMAN.

PALMERSTON NORTH, May 16. In the Supreme Court to-day before Mr Justice Hosking, Michael Iloughan, Simmon McGreal, and James Egan, were charged with having assaultocl the Rev. Frederick Stockwoll, at Feildine on February 13th, and with having done him grievous bodily harm. ,Th® evidenco given was that at the conclusion of a Protestant Political Association meeting, a crowd followed Mr Stockwell and other clergymen along the street. EvontiiaJly Mr. Stockwell was violently assaulted, receiving injuries from which he is still suffering. After hearing tho evidence of the prosecution, his Honour ordered McGreal and Egan to be discharged, thore being no evidenco to connect them with the actual assault. / _ Tho Judste summed up against Rouglian, and the jury returned a verdict of guilty. Sentence was deferred.
