THE COAL SUPPLY
TO . THE EDITOR OF "THE rBKS."
Sir, —Mr J. A. Rodpath says that one ton of bituminous copl is equal to one and a half tons of lignite. If that is-so, I want to know why lignites are almost the same price as West Coast or Australian coals? In fact, the last lot of coal I got, half Westport and half Kaitangata, was all charged tho same prico. Los per quarter ton. Is it likely that people will burn lignite if they can get bituminous coal at tho same nrico? There must be some other causp peside increased hewing and railway rates to account for tho present prices of lignites—Yours, etc., CONSUMER.
