SIR WILLIAM FRASER
Sir William Fraser (Minister of Public Works) arrived in Christchurch from South Canterbury last evening, and will return to Wellington to-morrow.
This morning, at 10.30, he will receive a deputation from Eyreton regarding the Waimakariri.
The Minister informed a "Press" representative last evening that ho had been incorrectly reported regarding the proposed Geraldine railway. What lie had said was that the proposition was one with which his Department had nothing to do, but that it would have to be referred to the Minister of Railways for his consideration. That being the case be must decline to express any opinion either of approval or disapEroval for the deviating of the line, ufc he would put before the Minister of Railways all the arguments that had been advanced in favour of the proposition, and he would be very pleased to learn by and by if it were possible that Geraldine'could be connected with the railway system. Yesterday Sir William Fraser was driven round the Geraldine district for a couple of hours by Colonel Mackenzie, the Minister securing a very good view of the surrounding country-, and being mucli impressed with it.
