SPORTING.

RACING AND TROTTING

NOTES.

(BT "LOOKBR-ON.")

The No. 6 trial grass gallop at Ric- • carton was open yesterday for all horses engaged at the North Otago and 3>unedin Winter Meetings, but the work done was not of a very interesting nature. There was very little to choose beN tween Adjutant and Brambletye at the end of a strongly-ruq six furlongs on the plough.

Gamecock had Fleetham beaten a furlong from the post in a trial over six furlongs on the grass, which took Imin 17 3-sth sec.

Daytime's dash over four furlongs in 51 l-sth' sec was not impressive. There was nothing between Furling and Jingo over the same distance, run in of a second slower.

General Petain finished a neck in front of Jeannot at the end: of a mile, run in Imin 47 4-sth sec. This was Jeannot's first gallop since he was seen out at Ashburton.

Spangle found little difficulty in beating Slogan over five furlongs, run in the smart time of Imin 4 2-sth sec.

Bomb, who was picked up by All pink after going a furlong, ran seven furJongs in Imin 32 4-otn sec, and finished well. " ' ■ — " ,

Art and Banian wero given a working gallop over a mile, while Tremona dashed over six furlongs in Imin 16 2-sth eoc. She finished well, and it <\vaa the best gallop of the morning.

. Naupata and Majestikoff will not race at tho North Otago Meeting next week, while, Jeannot is also a doubtful starter.- .

..Battle Eve was on the track yesterday, and -was given plenty of trotting 'exercise. The Martian horse appears "to - be soraid again, but it has not yet been decided if he will go south. N

Two girls have made their appearance on the Caulfield track, both riding work. One of the pair was schooling a horse over brush ftnees.

At the Adelaide Cup Meeting, held this month, imported horses, or horses sired by imported stallions, accounted for ten out of the twelve events on the first two days. At the Newcastle Meeting similarly bred horses carried off four of tho six races.

The ex-New Zealand trainer D. J. Price is now located at Gienhuntly (Victoria), where he has a fair-sized team, in work. One of liis team is Ben Fuller, winner of the Ascot Thousand.
