RED CROSS SOCIETY.
NEW BRIGHTON BRANCH. The annual meeting and reunion of the New Brighton branch of the Red Cross Society was held in the Piei»Hall, last night, the Mayor (Mr F. Kibblewhite) presiding over a large attendance. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed a credit balance of £265 13s 4d,
The report traversed the work of tho year, and returned thank a to all who had assisted the branch in any way.
Mis Frank Thompson, in seconding the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, made a very strong appeal for more workers. The bandage department was well supplied with workers, but knitters were badly needed. She could assure all workers of a hearty welcome.
Mr C. H. Winny made a strong appeal on behalf of tho Lady Liverpool Fund, not, as he said, that he wished Red Cross helpers to secede, but to help tho other fund, whose operations were appreciated by our boys in the trenches.
Mr G. T. Booth, who was present at the invitation of the branch, in a brief address on the Red Cross, dwelt upon the work being done in the United States by the Red Cross.
Mr J. A. Flesher gave an address dealing with the operations of the Red Cross in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, and heartily congratulated the New Brighton branch upon tho splendid result of the year's work, the receipts amounting practically "to 10s per head of the population. During the recent offensive on the Western front there were over 300,000 casualties during the six weeks. He mentioned this in order to ehow the need for greater effort by all.
Supper was then handed round by members of the Ladies' Committee, during which a sale of flowers, birds, etc., took plaoe, and vocal and instrumental items were given by Miss Otley, Miss Matthias, Mr W. Drake, Mr'J. Cade, Mr J. Clark, and others.
