In connexion with. the election of | officers of the Christchurch Second Division League, the following nominations have been received: President, Mr H. S. J. Goodman; hon. treasurer, Mr H. R. Best; hon. secretary, Messrs L. J. Campbell and H. J. Yates; executive, Messrs F. Allen, JM. Arlow, L. J. Campbell, J. E. Congrove, T. S. Dacre, L. Farr, L. Gordon, W. Hiles, J. Hamlet, H. F. Herbert, C. H. Jubb, R. D. Martin, J. R. Moore, J. Reid, R. Smith, G. W. Staniland, W. L. Thomas, J. "W. White, H. J. Yates. ASHBURTON BRANCH. At a meefing of tho Executive Committee of the Aahburton Second Division League, held on Tuesday, evening, it was decided to send the following remit to the Dominion Conference: —"That the allowances to wives and children of home service men should be as near as possible to those of wives and children of . Second Division soldiers who will bo leaving on active service." Mr H. M. Jones was elected delegate to attend the conference at AVellingtoa on the 22nd insfc: Members' subscription for next year was fixed at 2s 6d instead of Is. MARSHLAND. A meeting of the members of tho Marshland Second Division League and their wives was held on Tuesday, evening. Mr D. Goodo occupied the chair. Tho Hon. D. Buddo, M.P., was present by invitation and stated clearly his attitude on tho questions at issue between the Second Division Leagues and the Government. His views and actions met with general approval, ancl after answering a largo number of questions, he , was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for his attendance. .»It was proposed by Mr J. Blackburn, seconded by Mr J. G. Abbott, and carried, "That in the opinion of this meeting the financial Assistance Board ought to provide interest on all 1 mortgages to tho full extent of the regulations (that is, up to' £150), without any reservation as to tbe financial ability of the soldier.'' Mr I'. Free moved, "That in the opinion of this meeting tho recent additional allowance of fourteen shillings per week is not sufficient to provide a reasonable maintenance for a soldier's wife, and strongly urges tho Government to increase the amount of the allowance to a total of £2 2s per week." This was seconded by Mr A. Wilson and carried. At a meeting of the committee of the* League, Mr H. McMillan was appointed' a delegato to the Dominion conference to bo _ held at Wellington next week.- It was resolved to forward the foregoing motions as remits to the Dominion executive, also two others, one relating to the time allowed between the medical examination and the going into camp, and tho other to Government restriction of tho importation of Australian labourers to fill vacant positions hero while they themselves are exempt from- military service.
