CHARGE OF BETTING ON A RACECOURSE.
A SENTENCE QUASHED
(press association telegram.)
AUCKLAND, May 14. In the Supreme Court to-day, Mr Justice Cooper quashed the sentence of two months' imorisonment passed by Sir F. V. F razor" S.M.j on Walter on February Bth, on a charge that being a bookmaker he did bet on the Takapuna racecourse. The ground of the apDeal was that the conviction was against the weight of evidence. His Honour said the case was highly suspicious, but the evidence had not established that degree of comparative certainty that would have enabled him to hold that Preston actually did bet on the day in question.
