NEW PLYMOUTH, May 13 In his charge to the grand jury at the Supreme Court to-day, his Honour the Chief Justice referred to tho amount of crime directly traceable to drink. He said at least one-third of tb© crime in New Zealand was a direct result of the drinking habit, and he thought the people wer 6 dead to ill sense of humanity towards their fellows in not stopping drinking, by which some of the best men of tho country were brought to crime.
