WELLINGTON, May 13. Giving ovideuco before the i>efonce Expenditure Commission, Colonel Adams, Commandant at Featherston, and Colonel Potter, Commandant at Trentham, said they wore anxious •to get away to tho front, but were refused permission. Both agreed that if they were responsible for tho training of the men there would bo healthy emulation between tho two camps. The system of transferring men from one -. imp to another resulted in the employment of a considerable number of men and a great deal of trouble. The reason for tho transfers was based _ on' modical grounds. The homo service men were not transferred. Both witnesses were in favour of the battalion system, and said if it wgfo left to them thov could carry out the training of the men if they had proper instructors.

WELLINGTON, May 13. The Defence Expenditure Commission will probably conclude the hearing of evidence to-morrow and tho following day, tho members of the Commission will go to Palmerston North to preparo their report. Mr Potcr Barr is still far too unwell to go, and it is now possible that ho will not oven be able to sign tho repprt when it is prepared.
