SALVATION ARMY.

DIVISIONAL CONGRESS

The Salvation Army Divisional Congress was brought to a close yesterday. On Saturday a tea lor local officers of the Army was given in the Barracks. About 170 people were present from Christchiirth. and the surrounding districts, as far as Ashburtun. Commissioner Hoddor presided.

There was a very Ib'ig attendance of the public at the Festival of Music and Song held in the Barracks' Hall. Commissioner Hodder was in the chair. After a short, prayer had been r,.Tercel up by Colonel the United Bands played the march "New Zea-. land" stirringly, and later played a selection 'The Rock:'' Other instrumental items were a pianoforte solo by Mr Keeble Tluirketlie. and a banjo solo by Mr Taylor. Three quartets which were heartily applauded wero: — 4 Secure I Rest," "Comrades in Arms,*' and "Pro Fund Basso," all three contributed by a Quartet Party consisting of Messrs Tlmrkottle, Taylor. Hildreth, and Middlemiss. Adjutant Middlemiss also contributed a recitation. The song, "Call to War." was sung rcusingly by the Sydenham Songsters, while the Christchurch Songsters contributed "Seek ye the Lord," and the Linwood Songsters "The Everlasting King. 1 ' The Mandoiine Band played two very enjoyable items, "Lorelei" and "The Call of" Spring." white the song of the Christch-urch Bible Class was warmly applauded. A bright little dialogue, "Over the Garden Wall,' 1 given by Adjutant Middlemiss and company, was one of the evening's most enjoyable features. A short Scripturo reading was given by Mrs Hodder. the proceedings terminating with the singing of the National Anthem. The Congress was concluded yesterday by several servicos hold in the Citadel. There were largo congregations, especially in the evening, when scores had to bo reluctantly told that there wa« no more seating room. t tho afternoon service two anthems were sting by the united songsters, the band played'sacred selections, vocal quartets were given, and company pieces sung by the'Sydenham, Linwood, and Christoiiurch songsters.
