A public meeting under the auspice* of the 1 Addington Burgesses' Association was hald last night, Mr H..L. Jackson presiding. The meeting woa called with tho object of considering the beat means of disposing of a sum of money which remained over as a surplus from . tho fund collected to build the band rotunda in- the Jerrold street xescxve» and also to elect a committee for the library, which is" to be opened shortly. On •the motion of Mr D. Brown, tho subscribers to the fund decided to hand over the money to; •the Addington Public Library. The following library committee was elected:— Messrs T. Clothier, B. Butterworth, J. Moffat, H. .L. Jackson, E. Downing, P. Maurioo, T. Kershaw, Tillyshort, and W. A. Sheldon./Mr Moffat was elected chairman of tho comi&ittee, Mr Sheldon secretary, and Mr PaxlLno 1 treasurer. Jackson, .'was appointed "t6 wait an tne City Council with a view to asking, that body to make a grant towaxds tho library. ; BECKENHAM RESIDENTS' ; • ASSOCIATION. • yho monthly meeting of the /Beckenham " Residents' Association was held oh Tuesday, Mr T. McGallan presiding, over a good attendance. Matters of interest to the district wero discussed, and it was. resolved to write to the Uailway Department regarding the state of the Colombo street crossing, urging tho Department to put the crossing in a permanent state of repair. Letters were received from the Drainage Board, stating that tho completion of the. Tennyson street drain would bo put in hand at once. Alas from tho City Council, stating that according to the Association s request an amouol would be placcd on the estimates for the coming year to put the street on Hasten tcrrace in good order. A very strong* expression of opinion concerning tho new bridgo on Colombo street south was voiced by the members, the opinion of the meeting being that the-bridge was even. a greater mccace to pitblis rafcty than herteofore. In the opinion of this Association, the person responsible for it* construction should bo liiowise responsible for its recorstruction and not the ratepayers. It was dccidod that in order to enfuse more interest in tho Association, tho secretary (Sfr T. C. Carlisle) be authorised to'arrange a-series of lectures during the winter, month's. '
