(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAII.) WELLINGTON, May 7. A fire wad discovered at 9.45 a.m. to-day in the after hold of. tho Mararoa at tho ferry wharf, in tho lower tiers of a. consignment' of quicklime,. loaded at Lyttelton yesterday. A 'considerable quantity had been discharged intact, when - tbelower bags were found to be smouldering. The loose lime was shovelled. into baskets and ths hold cleared by noon. No damage was done. It is assumed that tho lime became damp whib lying in trucks at. Lytteltoa on Saturday and Sunday in- the heavy rain and hail. PASSENGERS FOR AMERICA.
