It is stated tiiat it will be tlie greatest gathering of Irish peasantry since MichaoJ Daviu founded tho Land League. Mr* John Dillon (Nationalist leader) and Mr E. Do Valera (Sinn Fein member for East Clare) will speak from the same platform. ■ Mr Dillon's statement, indicating that Irish mombeis wilj return to Westminster, is regarded as an acceptance of tho Government's olive branch, consisting of Homo Rule and an anticonacriptionist Chief Secretary. DISLOYAL IRISH-AMERICANS. (Australian and I«*.Z. Cable Association.) (Received May 6th, 7.45 D.m.) NEW YORK, May 5. The Irish Freedom Society, nt a meeting in Madison square Gardens, bitterly denounced England, those present taking an oath to stand by Ireland. Mrg Sheehy Skeffington said that if the hope of Britain was Irish conscription England would be wined out. England will," she declared, "bo defeated by the spirit of Sinn Fein." A number of members of the American Secret Service wero present at the meeting.
NEW LORD LIEUTENANT. (Australian and N.Z. Caßlo Association.) (Router's Telegrams.) (Received May Gth, 11.40 p.m.) LONDON, May 5. The Press Bureau states that Viscount French has been avipointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, and Sir Edward Shortt, M.P. for Newcastle, has been appointed Chief Secretary. Mr H. E. Duke lias been appointed Lord Justice of Appeal.
