BOROUGH COUNCILS.

WOOLSTON. Tho Wools ton Borough Council met last ni?ht. Present—Tho Mayor (Mr McGregor Wright), and Crs. T. N. Champ, J. C. Hobson, li. Hurt, J. RadcLiffe, S. Johns, D. Itowse G. H. Borrows, G. S. Whit©, and D. Mcßae. Tho town clerk reported that the building permite issued during Apxil were two, of a total value of £700. Tho Finance Committee's report showed, that there was a net credit balance at tho bank of £Sa 7s 3d. Thp report was adopted. The Hospital and Charitable Aid Jioard wrote announcing a levy on the Council for tho year 191S-I9 of £136 63 lOd, the increase over tho levy of the previous year being £69 10s Gd. Cr. Champ protested againsi the increase, aaying that at the present time he thought it exccSsive. Expenses should be cut down as much as possible, and the Council should not bo asked to provide such an amount. Crs. Hart and Kowao also protested against the levy. Cr. Hobson moved that tho Council's reprcsentative on tho Xiourd should bo" asked to furnish a report on .the matter. Cr. Champ seconded tho motion, which was carried. The Department of Internal Affairs wroto enclosing a copy of the "Gazette" containing a notification re-defining the boundaries of tho City of Cbristchurch and the County of Heathc'ote, in order to make it quite clear that the Woolston footpaths were not within the city boundaries.
