SEAMAN WASHED OVERBOARD.
(press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, May C. The steamer Rimu, from Hokisnga, while crossing the Manukau bar this morning, was overtaken by a heavy sea, which completely enveloped the steamer, only the masts showing above the water. Mr Gash, the chief mate, and a seaman named Howard Christian, were on the boat deck.. The latter was swept overboard, and it is almost certain he was drowned. Mr Gash escaped by climbing into a boat on the davits.
