NOTES AND COMMENTS* Fine weather favoured tho opening day of the Canterbury Association's competitions, arid the grounds were in good order. Oxford Terrace made their appearance in the senior grado in place of Biblo Class, who have dropped back to juniors. The gam© between Cranford and Oxford Terrace at St. Albans was fairly even. Cranford had much the better of tho first hp!f, but wild shooting lost many scores. The forward line had' evidently not formed p. computation, and the half line missed who was tho mainstay loet season. Tho Oxford Terrace front lino was an eTen lot. Dawson, an old Canterbury reprosentacamo back to form as oeirtre half, and received good assistance from the wings. C. Werron and "W. Turner, a returned man who played last for Woolston, wero ,6ound in defence, the former being especially good, wiile W. Congreve filled the position in goal, but having left the game for a soaeon or two, ho was not brilliant.

_ Sydenham and Christchurch tried conclusions, and a very even game was eeen. Tho latter team were unfortunate in being minus a goalkeeper. Tho Christchurch forwards lacked a ?ood shot at goal S. G. Holland was among th<? forwards again after "doing his bit," but was naturally not at his old form. Throp pat in some good solo work; _ but Peppier is not up to senior form. Cairns, promoted from juniors, played a fair game at half, but has a lot to learn.

Selwyn had the better of their game right through, and play was in the Technical half 01 the gTOund most of the match. The Technical team was considerably weaker than last eeaso.
