The principal sales were:—Ex St. James Station, a number of good unbroken horses, wiucn sold from £10 to £1*; account H. lteeves, h'endalton, 1 pony, £lo; account client, 1 draught gelding, £14 10s; i>yttc-ltou client, 1 pony, £5 10s; account Frederick Hale, Syaenham, 1 bay mare, 10a; account client, 1 boy's pony. £6; account. J. Fowler, lticcarton, 1 black gelding, £8. Aged hacks aaid harness horses sold at late rates. DUVAUCHELLE SALE. At the monthly salo at Duvauchell© on Friday there was a very good entry of stock, both late and stores. The number of dealers present was smaller than usual, and prices generally showed a dragging tendency. Tho chief sales were:—Fat steers £14 10s to £17, fat cowa £10 to £14, {at heifers £i to £li>, springers £10 to £17, bulls up to £10 10s, calves £2 to JS4. 18-months-old cattle, mixed sexes, £7 to £8 " 10s. An unusual featuro of the sale was the entry of a line of 340 sheep, which, however, failed to find a buyer. SATURDAY'S POULTRY MARKET. •Messrs J. B. Morrett and Co. had a good entry of poultry on Saturday. Good quality birds .were in splendid demand. Table chickens realised Ss 6d to 0s 4d, hens 23 6d to 03 "d, ducks 5s to "3 6d, geeso 7s to 9e 6d, turkeys lis to 28s, pullets 5s 3d to 13s &d, all per pair. THE EGG MARKET. The egg market remains firm, and prices are similar to last quotation. Canterbury Egg Circle, first grades, are 2s Bd, seconds 26 sd, preserved is Sd per dozen. 1 TAIERI HORSE SALE. Messrs Donald Reid and Co. held their annual Taisri horse fair at Allanton on April 30th, when there were buyers present from Otago,' and South Canterbury. There were 57 unbroken colts and fillies and 50 draught mares and geldings offered. The quality of the. colts and fillies was not quite up to the usual high standard, but tlicro were a fair number of good, sound, wellgrown sorts. These met with good competition, and, considering tho unsatisfactory state of the horse market for some time, a good proportion of them changed hands at satisfactory prices. Colts three to four vears old made £19 10s to £31, fillies £19 10s to £35. The quality of the draught horses and geldings was not equal to that of late years, and although a fair number of sales " were effected, no high prices were realised. Good, useful, sound draughts, suitable for farm work, were in demand. Buyers were enquiring for heavy draughts suitable for lorry work, but few of these were included in the catalogue. A six-year-old gelding made £30, I good useful farm horses £15 to £25, and I aged and unsound £5 to £10. I
