SUMNER LADY LIVERPOOL FUND. A pleasant social afternoon was held at Sumner, on Friday, for the purpose of raising funds for the Lady Liverpool J ( und. Mrs H. J. Marrincr presided over a large attendance. Addresses wero given by Mrs Holland and Mrs Chilton, making a strong appeal for fonds. During tho afternoon musical items were given by Mrs Cotter, Miss Johnson, Miss Barr, Mrs March, Miss Leithead, Mi§? Jamieson, while Mrs | Baxter acted' as accompanist. DANGER OF CELLULOID. The dangerously inflammable nature of celluloid was again illustrated by an accident which happened to an infant child of Mr J. W. Fitzgerald, of 10 Marion street, "Wellington. On Thursday morning while tho mother was preparing her other children for school, she loft her infant, son, aged 14 months, in charge of her daughter, aged seven years Being a cold morning, a fire was burning in the room. The little girl was | combing her brother's hair when she let drop the oomb. The infant picked it up and poked it in the fire. The comb instantly blazed up and set fire to the child's clothes, severely burning tho infant. Dr. Mackin was in attendance in a very short time, and after giving the infant sufferer attention ordered his removal to the Hospital, where unfortunately death supervened on Friday.

TO-DAY'S RECIPE. Potato Patties.—To one cup of warm mashed potato add ono tablespoon of butter, one teaspoon of salt, the wellbeaten yolk of two eggs, ono cup of sweet milk, ono and a-half cups of flour sifted with ono and a-iialf level teaspoons of baking powder, and the whites of the eggs beaten until stiif. Fill well-oiled or buttered patty pans two-thirds full, and bake in a quick oven for about twenty minutes.

Theie passed away a few days ago, one of Auckland's oldest residents in tne person ol' Mrs William Pnilcox.
