Progress of the War.
Artillery and aerial activity is the main feature of the news from the Western front this morning, tho only infantry operations recorded being small affairs compared with some of the recent fighting in this theatre. There are, however, signs of livelier activity, and, according to Reuter's correspondent at British Headquarters, the enemy is resuming his effort to force the hill chain west of Mom; Kemmel. The latter portion of his • despatch implies that the enemy Las launched another blow at the French sector, but no details liavo come to hand at the time of writing. An unofficial report states that a big battle has begun on the Italian front, but 3 there is no confirmation of this message in either the Italian or Austrian official reports. The Italian communique confines itself to recording recent; successful activities of the British aviators on this front, while the Austrian official messages speak vaguely about lively lighting oh the whole front without indicating what side has taken the initiative or whether it is merely local activity or a movement on a major scale. Further successes are reported for the British arms in Palestine, where the Turkish position is said to be precarious. . Tho remainder of the cables record no change in tho general war situation, though it is rumoured that Germany has opened another peace offensive through tlie' medium of neutral emissaries.
