CONSCRIPTION OF MAORIS.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, May 4. The first ballot in the Native Expeditionary Force Reserve was taken yesterday. Tho ballot applied to First Division Maoris resident in the Wai-kato-Maciapoto recruiting district, and 200 names were drawn iroin the roll containing 420 names. The -'Gazette" containing tho names of the selected men will be published next week. The First Division men in the .Native Reserve are a small proportion of the total number of Maoris ot military age. owing to the custom of early marriages which prevails among the .Maoris. The Second Division list for the W aikatoManiapoto district contains more than twice as many names as the First Division list contains
