MAY 24th. BRITISH AND FOREIGN SAILORS' SOCIETY. , LADY JELLICOE'S PERSONAL APPEAL. "May I, as a sailor's wife . . • plead for your continued generosity on behalf of the great national work which the Society 'is doing for our seamen, and for those who are dear to them. . . .. At the -express wish of the Admiralty this Society is about to" erect naval rests at various naval stations. I know of tho splendid relief work which this Society is doing in providing food and. clothing for sailors interned in • Germany; in giving immediate relief to disabled sailors and dependants of seamen who have fallen on active service; in- providing education for sailors' orphans, and especially m feeding, sheltering, clothing, and sending to their various homes the thousands of merchant seamen whose vessels have been sunk by enemy action. A sum of £250,000 is needed to ensure continuance of this work, and I sincerely hope that I may Tely upon your co-oper-ation to help these brave men and their dependants, whose sacrifices are part of tho price of our safety." • , , A Citizens' Committee has been formed to raiso the Canterbury, quota towards the Empire effort, culminating on May 24th (Sailors' Day). .
