OBITUARY.

MR PATRICK COFFEY. Rakaia has lost one of its oldest residents by tho death of Air Patrick Coffey, a well-known figure in tho township. He was born in Killarney, Ireland, 86 years ago, and cam© out to New Zealand in the ship "YVaitangi in 1876, and had resided at Rakaia ever since, for the greater part of the time carrying on a bootmaker's business. He lived lor some time next to where the Bank of New Zealand now stands. Ho was a first cousin of the Bishop of Kerry. He was of a retiring disposition, and seldom took part in public matters, but his honesty of purpose earned the esteem of all who knew him. He leaves two daughters, five sons, 27 grandchildren, and six great-grand-eliildren. Two of the, sons, Privates Cornelius Coffey and James Peter C'oifey, are serving with the colours in France.

On November 26th the death occurred at Parnham House, Dorsetshire, of Mr Edward Moorhouse, formerly a very well-known resident in New Zealand (writes our London correspondent). He passed away peacefully, after an illness of rather more than three weeks, in the eighty-fourth years of his age. For many years Mr and- Mrs Moorhouse have been living in England with their family, chiefly in Northamptonshire, where Mr Moorhouse was well known in the hunting field. Ho leaves a widow, two daughters, and one eon. One son, his elder son, Lieut. W. R. Rhodes Moorhouse. V.C., \Vas the first airman to rcceivo this covcted award. Ho died in France early in 1915, from wounds sus-tained while dropping bombs on Courtrai. Mr Moorhouse had many relatives and friends in New Zealand. Tito iJ :\F„th j-as occurred at Reefton of Mr a well-known mining contractor. Mr Burns was head of the party of contractors who drove the tunnel for th:i Addison's Gold Mining Compuny. He an. -Australian bv birth., and bad resided in. Hcefton for sixteen years.
