NOTES ON THE GAIIES. (special to "the pkkss.") DUXEDIX, January 17. The rinks remaining in the tournament •esuraed play to-day on the Dunedin green. Itain fell heavily during the night, but when the time came for play to 6tart it was beautiful and fine, with little or no wind. Towards five o'clock, as the last games started, heavy ram began to fall, and continued for >ome time. Nearly all the surviving rinks He composed of well-known players, who nayc made names for themselves before in Dominion tournaments, and if the weather aould only keep clear, some very fine games *ould be seen. V Walker's rink, which has played Eplcndidly Shroughout the tournament, met vrith their first defeat this morning, being beaten by Bailey (FTataitai). Sinco then they have won their other two .games, tho last against Fraser (United). In the first round this morning, Fraser met Smellie (Green Island), and at the start it seemed as ii the Christchurch man would haro an easy win. On'tho seventh head they were eleven to their opponents' three. On tho thirteenth head the score read, Fraser 15, Smellie 10, but the latter then scored one, two. three, and two, which brought him to 18. Then it was 18 all, and then 19 nil. The next head was burned, and Smellie scored on the last head, and won the game by the narrowest of margins. In tho next round Fraser met Bailey (Hataitai), and this game was won cosily by Fra3cr, by a largo margin. In their third game against Maxwell Walker, they were not so successful, but it must be said they played magnificently throughout, although tho score was all agsinst them. Woolf, particularly, played Ti?::u(iful bowls, and Brown, as lead, guyo a good account of himself. By losing this jrnme, they are now out of the ritj?sß. Colville (Fdsev-nrc) had a bye this morninT. but in IV record rrund met Gray, of IvVilujrn. Tl'pv pinyc-i throughout, and four- hoaris to fro -yrre '-five points-to the -cod.
