NAVY LEAGUE.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The General Committee of the Canterbury (N.Z.) Branch of the Navy League met yesterday. Present—Mr Alex. Boyle (in. the chair), lira Boyle, Rev. K. Eliot Chambers, Major Batchelor, Messrs J. J. Dougall, and H. J. Marriner. The financial statement showed a credit balance in the general account of £17-2 19s sd, a credit balance in the Lord Beresford Fund of £202 19a Bd, and a credit balance in the Naval Dependants' Fund of £1962 2s 7d. It was resolved that £400 of "Navy Day" money be passed to the Lord Beresford Fund, and that the balance go into the general account. A letter was received from the Ladies' Emergency Committee of the Navy League Fund, London, acknowledging with gratitude the sum of £700 from the Beresford Fund for assistance for prisoners of war. The letter stated that the case of prisoners of war was a pressing one, and that in view of the increased price of groceries, etc., and the scarcity of money, it liad become increasingly difficult to raise tho £2000 required every month. Correspondence in connexion with the teaching of subjects relating to. British sea power and nava] history in. secondary and elementary schools was referred to the" Schools' Subcommittee.

Mr C. J. Parr, M.P. for Eden, wrote offering to lecture- in Christchurch on tho Navy. It was decided to accept Mr Parr's offer with thanks'," and to fix Wednesday, March 13th, for tho date of the lecture.
