RANGIORA UNITED BAND OF HOPE.
Several competitions arranged by the coiuraittoo of the Kangiora United Band of Hope, for members of tho Rangiora and Southbrook children, took place in the Good Templar Hall last evening. The Rev. W. H. Howes presided over a very large attendance. Thero were three competitions of three giades in each. Tho entries were good, and each class was well contested. The first competition was for recitations, the judges being Messrs W. A, Banks actl N. W. PivVitt. The result® were as follows: — Recitations —First grade, under 15 years: Lorna McGruer 1, Ina Grimwpod 2. Second grade, 10 to 12 yeare: Phillie Maddams 1, J as. Laskcy 2, Hilda Dewo 3, Hilda Marshall 4. ' Junior grade, under 10: Nellie Lamb 1, Daphne Lambert 2, Mollie Thompson 3. ' Spelling (judge, Miss Buchanan) —Under 15 years i A. Chambers 1, B. Plackett 2. Under 12 years: Phillis Maddams 1, Lucy Cos 2, Gordon Howes 3, Mary McKay 4. Under 10 years: W. Mitchell 1, L. Chappell 2, Ngaire Shankland 3. Essay on Teetotalism (judge, Mra R. Darling)— Under 15 years: Jeannie James 1, Under 12 years: Gordon Hovres 1, Cliff Wilson 2. Under 10 years: Lucy Cox and K. Wilson (equal) 1. The prizes will bo presented on Tuesday week, in the Methodist Schoolroom.
