THE WEATHER.
WELCOME PALL OF R.UN"
Following on the showers experienced throughout Thursday, a steady warm rain set in from the north-ea.st in the evening, and continued, though at tiroes light, all day yesterday, and at the time of writing showed no signs of clearing. The downfall was appreciated on all sides. The frequent, nor'-westers had baked the surface of the earth, and crops, pastures, and gardens were beginning to feel the need of moisture. Though in many places shearing will have been jetarded. the general benefit wTll outweigh the • slight delay occasioned by the break in the weather.
A much-needed rain commenced to fall at Ashburton shortly after nine o'clock on Thursday evening, and continued throughout the night and right up till midday yesterday, when it showed signs of clearing. Up till y a.m. yesterday 49 points were registered at the Domain weather station. The rain was warm, and should prove very Iteneficial to all vegetation, which in some districts was being affected by the nor til-west winds.
