Captain Basil Wood, the dramatist-, ■was found dead in his bod. Mil HERBERT COLE. An old resident of Christchurch in the person of Mr Herbert Colo, died yesterday at his residence, Cashmere Hills. He was a son of Mr John Cole, miller, of Southbrook, ltangiora. liorn at Kaiapoi in 1858, the dcccased spent most of his life in Christchurch. lie was for cight-ccn years in the employ of the Farmers' Co-op. Association, and left them to join the late .Mr T. E. Taylor. M.P., in business. Mr William EfForcl, senior, who died at Rangiora yesterday morning, had been a resident of the town for over 35 years, being employed by Messrs Boyd and Keir and tho Kaiapoi Shipping and Trading Company for about 25 years, retiring from the company after tho destructive fire about six years ago. Hp was «a life member of the Rangiora l r iro Brigade, being at. one timo a very active member, training tho firemen for their competitions. He was of a very retiring nature, and did not aspire to public honours. However, for a number of years he took a. keen interest in the Sons and Daughters of Temperance Lodge, and was a member of tlio Rangiora Bowling Club. He leaves a widow and .two sons, one. in the North Island, and Mr W. Efford, of Rargiora. Another of the old p-ioncers or tho Sansou district in the person of -Mr "Robert Perrett. tho well-known pig breeder an<( judge, died on Sunday. The deceased was a native of Somerset- and ratno out to the Dominion many years ago, settling in Sanson, •where he carried on farming in a very successful way. His son, Mr JL H. Perrett. is a -well-known member of the Feilding and Manawaiu A. and P. Societv Committees, the Feilding and Rangitikei Racing dubs, a member , of tho Racing Conference, and other public institutions. N An old resident of Palmorston North, Mr John Cameron Mc William. died suddenly there on Sundav. Tho doceased, 'who had been a resident of the district for about 25 years, followed tho occupation of a clerk, and was for many years in the employ of the Manawaiu *Sash and Door Factory and tho Union Timber Co., Ltd. He took a great interest in Caledonian Society matters, a-nd was secretary of tho local society for some years. He was also a *,ery old Freemason.
