Tho Harbour Board at its meeting to-night considered a report from its Onginocrs regarding the building of an extra cool storage for cheese. The engineers estimated that a temporary store could bo erected for £6500. and a building of a • partially permanent naturo for £11,000, The chairman moved .that- with ro* gard to the Agricultural "Department's suggestion that tho Board should immediately construct a temporary additional cool store for tho storage of' cheese unable to be shipped owing to the abnormal shortage of vessels, tho Board, whi'st recognising, with the Department, that the . project was to a large extent speculative, it was yot- prepared to proceed at once -with the work on condition that the Board received a cash subsidy oqua] to one-half of-the estimated cost of £0-300: further, that the chairman and engineer of the Board be pmnowereu io confer with .tho Agricultural Department on theso linrs. After a disc-ussion as to whether tho store would pay. tho motion was carried.
