HAYWARD. • » THE FUNERAL. The respect in which tho hito Mr William Hayward was held was evidenced by the big attendance at tho funeral, which took place yesterday morning. There was a largo congregation at requiem mass at the Roman Catholic Cathedral, and the funeral cortege'was a lengthy one. Tho pallbearers wore: Messrs W. Hayward, J. Jt. Hayward, G. C. Hayward (sons), L. Hayward' (grandson), Arthur Mead (son-in-law), and' Dr. A. B. O'Brien.
At tho Cathedral the celebrant at high mass was Dean O'Donnell (Asliburton) deacon, Father Graham (St. Bcde's), sub-deacon, Father Cronin (Darlield), aud master of ceremonies, Dr. Kennedy. Adin. Tho mass wa3 Gtegorian, plain chant, sung by the priests and conducted by Mr A. J. 13unz. Miss Ward was at the organ and played the "Dead March." The other clergy who were present wore: — Dean Regnault (St. Mary's), Dean llyland (l.langiora), Jiev. Fathers O'Haro (■Addington), Cooney (Lyttelton). Roche and Seymour (St. Mary's), Loiitr and Hanrahan (Cathedral): Rev. Fathers Gondringer and Outrinuu represented St. Patrick's College. Wellington. The sisters and children from Nazareth House, scholars from the Marist Brothers', St. Joseph's, and St. Patrick's Schools, and members of the Hibernian Society were also amongst, those present. At the graveside the burial service was conducted by Dean O'Donnell. assisted bv DV. Kennedy.
