.. FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. Tho Christchuroh City Council met laafc evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr H. Ho)-' land), and Crs. W. H. Cooper, J. 11. Hay■waxd, J. Reynold®, 3". 3|£cCombs, M.PE. Peck,' J. McCullough, H. Hunter, F. Burgoyno, A. S. Taylor, J. W. Beanland. G. Scott, D. G. Sullivan, H. J. Otley, A. Williams/H F. Herbert, and J. O. Jameson. A petition wu xeoeived from 304 .residents and ratepayers in the districts of Beckenham, Fisborton, and Thorrington nrging- the Council to take eteps to cause tho removal of tho septic tank from Malcolm Fiaherton, which tho petitioners alleged wa* a menace to tho health of the residents in. tho districts mentioned. Tho clerk of tho Hoathpote County Council stated that his Council had applied to the Drainage Board for permission -to pump the effluent into the sewer in Colombo street. The Mayor said the matter had como up before tho Drainage Board at its last needing, The Drainage Board had agreed to allow "tho tank to bo connected with the Board's sewer, and the District Health of* floor had been asksd to report on the matter, If he oertified that it was • nuisance the tank would b© cut off. Mr H. J. Otley said tho Drainage Board made a reasonable offer in the matter. It was decided to hold th® matter over for four weeks to b€o what would be done, Tho By-laws, Finance, and Departmental Committee stated that on August loot Mr W. Henley and others asked that tho north side of Oirice road h© exempod from the pro-' visions of Sec.. 1117 of tho Publio Works Act. On applying to tho Department' for tha requisite Order-in-Council the Department re--1 plied that etene would be token to exempt I the street from the' provisions of the section provided tho Conncil obtained tho tivlo to the strip oi land necessary to widen tho street from Winchester street to Papanui road to '75 links. Smith, all at 5s Id per bag; hardware, Ait'kon and Roberts, £364 Gs 2d; kerosene and cylinder oil, Vacuum Oil Co.; oils and grease, | Aitkcn and Roberts; coal, Mr Johnston and i McClatchi© and Co. I A number of occupiers of premises in High I street wrote drawing the attention of the ' Council to tho nuisance which it waa alleged wore from oertain premises.
