A circular letter was received by the City Council la.st evening from Mr Joseph .Piper, of Petone. forwarding the following extract from a letter written by his son, now on service in England with the .Motor Moat "Patrol: "I. have been requested by the single men Iron) New Zealand in the Patrol Service to ask if you will on our behalf thank the Petone' Borough Council and 'other authorities associated with it. in their endeavour to obtain for us the same concessions from the New Zealand Government regarding rates of pay. as the Government has granted to married members of the Patrol Service. Though so far unsuccessful, wo fully appreciate the kindness of their action, and we are still in hopes that this much-need-■>d concession will soon be granted. ' Mr I'ijjer. sen., added to this that as many of these men had felt constrained to make an allotment out of their pay oi IN (5d per diem to tho a e who were partially dependent upon them prior to their leaving New Zealand, their financial position could be readily imagined.
