Mrs Sendall stated that she was in bodily fear of her husband. Ho had been drinking. His Worship said it was evident, from an examination of defendant, that he was not responsible. At the Supreme Court Arthur Albert Potter, nightwatchman, of Hawera, and an ex-constable, was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment for breaking and entering and theft of one pound. The minimum fine of £25 and costs was inflicted. SHORT-WEIGHT BREAD. (rRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) OHAKUNE, December 18. Alice Ratcliffe, baker, was fined £20 on Saturday for selling bread deficient in weight. The evidence showed a shortage of 17 ounces on 66 pounds of bread. Defendant denied the allegations, and said that a number of loaves weighed 1J ounces overweight. The Magistrate said that defendant's evidence was unreliable, otherwise he •would have been more lenient.
