A small committee \va« appointed to confer with tho Addington and Riccarton Associations to assist in making the overlap section more widelv known. A letter was received from the Clirisichurcli Telegraph Engineer, in reply to an application for a reduction in the charges on the telephone bureau at Lyttelton street and Lincoln road. The Engineer pointed out that the charges were on a mileage b&ais up to two miles a penny. The Association members considered it was a hardship on the residents, aa it was only slightly over two miles, and if a reduction was made it would materially expedite business. The Association discussed a statement made by Councillors Elliot and Hayes in the Borough Council, and published in the daily press, that there was no dissatisfaction amongst the residents in the West Ward. It •was moved by Mr Wm. Stewart and seconded by Mr J. P. Diack, "That this meeting of ratepayers repudiates the above statement as inaccurate, and points out' that during tho last eighteen months three requisitions had been sent to the Borough Council (bearing about a hundred signatures) anent Edinburgh street, Domain terrace, and Atheleton •street. Th© bad state of River road and Cobham street, and the indiscriminate use of shingle, along with the unwatered state of Lincoln road, had caused much dissatisfaction." The motion was agreed to, and it was decided to 6end a copy to Councillors Hayca, Elliot, and O'Ronrke.
