THE RAILWAYMEN.
RESOLUTIONS OF LOCOMOTIVE ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of the Locomotive En-gine-Driver:,. and Firemen and Cleaners' Union, held yesterday, a motion was passed "that the Government's attention be drawn to the huge profit/ being made by producers and commercial people, and asking that the excess profits tax be further increased to enable soldier*' dependants and soldiers returning to be better provided for, and also to provide for increased pay to soldiers." It was also decided to ask the Executive Council to take action towards calling a meeting of all representatives of labour to consider* the increasing cost of living and the steps necessary to check the increase. A resolution was carried "protesting agaist the severitv of tho sentence imposed on R. Semple for a first offence." The report of tho meeting, supplied by the secretary, states that ••the meeting was of the opinion that_ a lighter punishment with a warning would have met tho case, as it would be impossible to transgress against tho laws again without being caught and dealt with in a heavier way."
