THE MENACE OF FOREIGN FLOUR. LETTER RECEIVED BY ME VIRTUE, MANAGER MILLING CO., AUCKLAND. FROM MR W. DUNBAR, FLOUR BROKER, HONG KONCI. "10th November, 1916. "I liave just returned from a trip to Japan, where we spent a month pleasantly, and during that time I visited one of tho large flour mills, which turns out 150 tons per day, and is now being increased to 200 tons. It was a modern plant with one American miller in charge, all Ihe work beingdone by natives—and it is well done. The mill had 10,000 ton« of wheat piled up: this wa-n drawn from Japan, Corea, and North China, While the wheat from Japan is email nnd dirty, that from Manchuria. North China, is very fair, and I think in time will make it-self felt in the world's markets. They export now abojt 2,000,000 tons of beans ©very vear: no doubt they will increase their wheat in due time. Japan is now selling flour in London mode from China wheat, and getting £18 per ton for it—not bad for a start." P.S.—Tho freight to London from Japan is between £6 and £' per ton.—P.V. 0.L.2115 A Really Artistic PORTRAIT of Your Friends ia necessary to hand down to posterity. CLIFFORD'S STUDIOS, C&shel street.
