Laws (adjudged by thn Court of Enquiry to have been killed in action) was a 6on of Mrs R. C. Laws, of Napier. Ho was educated at tho Boys' High School and was lor soma timo connected with the Napier Post and Telegraph staff, being subsequently transferred to Wellington, from which place he enlisted. Lance-Corporal AY. H. Moore (reported missing) is tho only son of Mrs 11. Moore, of Lyttelton. He left with tho Ninth Ileinforeemente. Previous to enlistment Lance-Corporal Moore was farming, in the employ of Mr G. A. McLean, at Amberley. Private David AV. Keaue (killed in action) went away with tho loth Reinforcements. Prior to , enlistment lie followed the occupation of hairdresser, and was for some ycar K in tho employ of Mr C. F. Herbert, Oamarn. Ho was educated at St. Patrick's School ami \Va.s -2 years of age. Two other brothers are, at the front. A letter wliich has boon received from one of his wounded comrades, states that Sergeant R. L. Armit, X.Z. R-ifle Brigado (formerly chief reporter on tho "Southland Times"), who was killed in action on September loth, was seen to fall into a shell-hole when the Brigade had rfeachcd within iive hundred yards of Flers. , The writer ol the letter, Sergeant llaleigh, of the same platoon, pays a very high, tribute to the late Sergeant Arniit's keenness and soldierly qualities, and states that he was to have received a commission when the Brigade was withdrawn from the Somrtjc. Sergeant Armit was particularly well-known , in AA'el ling ton, Invercargill, and Gisborne, and was an old boy of Nelson College.
