Progress of the War.
The situation in Roamania is gradually working towards the expected climax of the fall of Bucharest. The success won by the Germans on December 3rd in the Targovistea-Titu area ■was of some magnitude, and the prisoners taken amount to 12,500, while seizures elsewhere on the same day totalled 4500. The enemy is now across the Targovistea-Bucharest rail- . way, and the Ploesci-Bucharest lino would, therefore, seem to bo in danger. So soon as that is cut there will remain to the Roumanians in Bucharest only one avenue of retreat by railway—that running direct to Cernavoda. The utility of this route is limited, and, therefore, a great deal of importance attaches to the Ploesci railway lino if, in the capture of Bucharest, the enemy is not also to secure a large part of Roumania's field forces. An attempt at a determined stand may, therefore, be looked for to'the north of Bucharest while the forces on the southern side of the city secure their retreat.
