PIGEON FLYING.
CANTERBURY FLYING CLUB. The Canterbury Flying Club'a race from Napier to Christehurch took place in fine weather.. The birds were released by Mr T. Laing. Unfortunately they encountered heavy southerly weather nearly all the way to Christehurch, only two owners reporting birds home beforo dark. The winning bird, the property of A. Gerard, Sow tho distance of 361 miles 1201 yards air-line in llhr 21m:n 58sec, a, speed per minuto-of 929 yards. J. W. Blanchard, 925 yaxd-S per minute; F. Kibblewhite, 550 yds; F. Vilfion, 539 yds; G. Anderson, 538 yds; and 11. Browning, 537 yd.-:, finished in the order named. The club held a race from Patea, Taranaki. ' The birds were released at 9.40 a.m., in fine weather. Owing to tho late liberation and tho birds having to Ay Cook's Strait at its widest part, over one hundred miles of water, '.host? birds that did not get a-way quickly did not have time to arrive home the same day. very few owners timing in. The race resulted in a win for F. "Wilson. h:a bird flying 257 miles ]505 yards in 7fcr 38min 42sec, a speed per minute of 1104 yards. A. Gerard's bad wae second. regi*f/:-ring a 6peed pc-r minute of 1074 yards. E. Ashworth's bird (1050 yards! and F. Kibblewfcite's bird (1019 yards) finished nest in order.
