EYRE. At the last meeting of tlio Eyre County Council there wore present—Messrs Richard. Evans (in tho chair), R. D. Dixon, A. J. Rich, Robt. Ward, C. Mclatosli, and F. G. Horroll. ■ It was resolved to euppovt the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce 111 tlio utilising of prison labour for tins making maintaining of arterial roads throughout the Dominion. It was resolved that £26 5s Id bo paid into the North Canterbury Patriotic Fund, to bo charged to the Eyre Riding. ■It was agreed that Messrs Helmore and Van Asch bo informed that 60 far Ifeesrs Rice Bros, had not complied with.tlio notice served regarding the clearing of Grigg'a road drain. It was resolved that the annual mooting bo held at the Council office on "Wednesday, 'November -2nd. It was agreed to guarantee £400 towards the cost of installing electric light in Sneyd street and Church Settlement, provided the chairman and Mr Rich could place a sound business proposition beforo tho Council. It was decided to approve of tho collection of old iron throughout the county, and that all monov received bo paid into the Central Red Cros3 Society. Tho following resolution was passed and forwarded to tho Minister of Defence: "That in view of the many serious complaints made of undue influence in regard to tho passing of recruits, this- Council is of opinion, that all rejects should bo again examined by an independent military medical board.
