RED CROSS FUND.
HORNBY-ISLINGTON. The monthly meeting of the Hornby-Isling-ton Red Cross Committee was held in tho Schoolhouse, Hornby, Mrs A. Morton presiding. It was reported that good work was being done, and that the usual fortnightly consignments had beeft forwarded to tho Central Depot. The funds had been supplemented by £2 8s Gd (sale of euchxe prizes at Islington), and by £7 (proceeds from a raffle of a teacloth presented by Mtb N. H. Scott, and won by Mrs Fuller). The sum of £20 had been collected for "Our Day Fund." Miss Tisch had been appointed collector in place of Mias Earnshaw, who had left tho district. Tho work finished in October is as follows: —7 pairs pyjamas, 11 undershirts, 9 bed jackote, 6 nightshirts, 5 operatingcoats, 9 day shirts, 7 pairs shorts, 14 pillowcases, 8 Balaclavas. 5 pairs socks. 5 i\vin# mittens. 3 scarves, 4 soldiers' bags. 31 treasure bags, 19 slings. 22 handkerchiefs, 30 wringers, 13 fomentation cloths, 60 face cloths, 27 diet cloths, 9.bottle covers, 18 limb pillow-covers, 8 limb pillows, 14 operation cloths, 85 medicine cloths, 1 sheet, 3 P'Pirs slippers, and 51 ewabs. Tho school children helped considerably with tho smaller articles. SHEFFIELD. \ ■ At the fortnightly meeting of the Patriotic Committee. Messrs W. 'J. Jenkins and G. Wright wore selected to interview Mr John Deans with reference to canvassing the district for old iron, lead, zinc, sacks, etc. Mr L. T. Wright was elected a member of the Bandage Class Committee. Thero -was a crowded attendance at ths concert and gift auction. Items were given by Misses Johnston, Belgrade, Turner, Hooper, and McKay, Mesdames Miller and Moffett, Rev. Wright, and Messrs Belgravv, Campbell, and Flavell. Mr Cook, of the Farmers' Co-op., kindly auctioned the giltfi. Mr G. Wright returned, thanks to tho performers, Mr Cook, and to the donors of gifts, which were received from: —Mesdamo3 Tomlinson, Musson, Butler, Jebson, Johnston, Compton Jenkins, Judd, Townshcnd. Adams, McMillan, and Master Morven Price. SCARGILL. Tho distressing tales of tho sufferings of Belgium, Poland, and Serbia have appealed to tho people of Scargill and Tipapa, who are making an effort to assist the respecti\<* Relief Funds. A strong committee has been formod under the presidency of Mr b. H. Davie and the matter is being taken m hand in earnest. It is proposed to hold, on December 15th, an entertainment, coup.ed with a sale of whatever gifts may be offered. Sub-committees to attend to the several branches of tho function have teen eet up, and it is hoped that a substantial sum will be raised
