Auckland had the honour of a parade of the 18th Reinforcements, the latest representatives of the Dominion trained for tho Jront. They left "Wellington last week for tho northern city, and their local departure makes an exceptionally goo-1 scrips of pictures, which fill the centre illustrated pages of the approaching issue of the "Weekly Pre:->s. : ' In spite of rainy -weather tho photographs are excellent, and add anotner to the numerous excellent editions of this attractive journal. War pictures of particular interest repre-. sent British Tommies hauling Lewis machine-guns to the firing-line. the magnificent advance at Longueval when the pipers played the Highlanders to the attack, Italian infants resting on a road hidden from the enemy by screens, a portion of the New Zealand 20th Reinforcements at Featherston, Christmas gifts for tho boys at the front, the Red Cross workers of tho Oamaru centre, and the soldiers' convalescent home at "Waikouaiti. In the same issue is an article and a series of illustrations specially interesting to educationalists. The article is by tho Hon. Sir Robt. Stout, and- the illustrations are of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology described as "one of the greatest educational institutes in the United States of America." In Christchurch preparations are proceeding /or the erection of the 6tatue to the memory of the late Captain Scott, an engraving of which, as it will appear when finished, is reproduced -in our contemporary.
