ARBITRATION COURT.

AWARDS FILED. The awards of the Arbitration Ccrart have been field in the disputes of the Christchurch branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers, etc. (electrical workers), Christchurh Plasterers' Union, Christchurch Operative Bootmakers' Society, Canterbury 'Motor-car,' Horse Drivers' and Livery Stable Emplovees' Union (taxi-drivers only), Canterbury Coach Builders' . Union, and the Christchurch. Painters' Union. When the disputes came before the Arbitration Court, it was announced in each instance, with the exception of the Painters' Union, that an agreement had been arrived at, and the Court was merely asked to commit tiic recommendations of the Conciliation Council into an award, which has been done. In the case of the painters' dispute, practically the only matter ,in dispute was that of wages, the Union asking that the minimum wage for a journeyman should be Is 6d per hour instead of Is 4£d per hour. The Court, in making the award, has dccided that the rate shall remain as before, namely, Is 4ld per hour. In" respect of the Canterbury Grocers' Assistants award, the Court has replied to a question of interpretation in respect to females employed in - making up groceries from bulk into small packots for delivery over the counter or to the order of customers. The work was performed in a room separate from the shop, and the Court was asked if such persons were to bo classed as shop assistants, and as such to be entitled to the wages prescribed. The Court decidcd that females so employed were assistants, and entitled , to the wages prescribed. WELLINGTON SLAUGHTERMEN'S AWARD. (PEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.) WELLINGTON, Septemfier 27. The Arbitration Court's award in the' slaughtermen's dispute embodies the existing agreement with all its particulars, with the addition of 2s 6d per 100 a.s a war bonus.
