The Southland League wrote asking tlio co-operation of the Chamber in urging the Government to lengthen the period during which revaluations could be lodged from 14 days to 28 days. Jt was decided to endorse tho request, and to coramunicatc witjj the' Government on tho subject.

Tho Patriotic Committeo wrote inviting evidence on matters likely to assist the Society in the use of its funds tor the permanent benefit of returned soldiers. It was agreed to reply that individual members would no doubt give evidcncc.

His Majesty's Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr 11. Dalton, forwarded a copy of his predecessor's report for 1915 on the trade of flew Zealand, and stated that ho hoped m a week or so to make an official tour of New Zealand. It was decided to ask Mr Dalton to adviso the Chamber previous to his arrival, so that arrangements could be made for a meeting of members. The Westland Chamber of Conimerco wrote advising their establishment. It was decided to congratulate the Westland Chamber, and express tho Lope that the Chambers would work together in matters of common interest.

The Dannevirkc Chamber wrote asking the Chamber to co-opcratc in asking the Postmaster-General to revert to the old system of publishing monthly addenda cards to the telephone exchange list. The opinion was expressed that locally no inconvenience resulted in the present method, as information as to new subscribers could readily bo obtained b.y ringing up the Kxeharigo. The Grain Merchants' Association wrote bringing under notice the fact that the Commonwealth authorities proposed collecting the income tax from New Zealand firms cn all goods shipped by them to Australia. A sub-committee was appointed to interview tho Commissioner of Taxes when visiting Christchnrch.

Mr Gilbert Anderson wroto that ho had attended the Imperial Conference of Chambers of Commerce held in London ia June last, at which he and Mr Kaye had represented the Chamber. He forwarded a copy of resolutions adopted and important information with regard to matters dealt with at the Conference. He asked for information on the subject of preferential freight rates, and a sub-committee was appointed to furnish this.

Mr Kayo also forwarded a short report on the work with interesting documents. °

Attention was called to the amount of p'lferiiirr of Home, intercolonial, and coastal steamers' cargoes, and it was decided to write to tho Minister of Justice calling his attention to the matter.
