ANNIVERSARY OF THE WAR.
LOCAL ARRANGEMENTS
It has been decided, in connexion with the citizens' meeting to bo held on Friday next to commemorato the second anniversary of the declaration of war, to hold a meeting at 12.30 p.m., irrespective of weather conditions. Til© previous plan was. in the event of wet weather, to postpone the meeting until the evening, tb»n hold it in the King Edward Barracks, but now it ia proposed to hold it in tho Square at 12.30 p.m. if fine, and in the Barracks at tho same hour if wet.
It is auticipatcd that the wholo function will last about three-quarters of an hour. The. resolution will be moved by the Mayor (Mr H. Holland), seconded by Mr A. Boyle, representing the Navy League, and supported by Mr G. T. Booth and others, and the speeches will be limited to five minutes.
In order to give everybody an opportunity of attending the meeting, and waiting untij the end, the Mayor is asking business people to close their shops and offices from 12.15 p.m. until 1.15 p.m.
The Mayor of Sumner (Mr J. B. Laurenson) has arranged for a public meeting in the Sumner Town Hall on Friday night, when patriotic speeches will be delivered And the ''Empire's resolution'' will be submitted and passed.
