WAIMAIRI COUNTY COUNCIL AND ELECTRICAL SUPPLY.
A CLAUSE POSTPONED. (SPECIAL TO "THE I'll ESS.") WELLINGTON, July 31. Tho clause in the Washing-up" empowering the Waimairi County Council to supply electricity to persons J*" siding beyond the boundaries of county, was the subject of brief me®" tion this evening, and finally the clsis# was postponed at the request of Mr MoCombs, who said he desired to rp* ceive the views of the Chris tchurch Ci J Council on the clause. . The Hon. G. W. Russell explained that in some parts of the county there were roads which marked the bouflaries, and on tho other side or roads were neople wiio desired to purchase electricity from the County Council. This clause enabled this to £'- ! done, and it in no way affected tne Christchurch City Council. . . Mr Witty endorsed this view, anu said that Christchurch was in no wav affected, as the City Council could not supply these people, even if it desired Tho Clause was, however, postponed to permit of the reply of th 0 Christcbnrch City Council hernr; rrc^ivfd. The other clauses in the Bill affecting Canterbury, were passed without comment.
