SUNBEAM KINDERGAHTI3X. • The committee of the Sunbeam Kindergarten heid a successful gathering on Friday afterncon. An exo-Lcnt sau> of goods, clotiico and toys was effected. A dainty tea was provided by the mothers of the pupils, and was presided over by Alesdamc s Jiscott and Napier. A report froai the head mistress— Miaa Jones—was received by the committee, in which she stated that during the winter j term the Sunbeam School had been entirely freo from any kind of infectious sickness, and the attendance had been well maintained. It was decided to hold a jumble sale next. Saturday. CONCERT AT RICCARTON. In epile of tho weather there was a fair attendance at the Kiccarion Public Hall last night, when a concert in aid of the Wharenui School Ground Improvement 6cheino was held. A pianoforte eoio was contributed by Airs Whitham and Miss 11. Stringer. Mr It. Clarke contributed eeveral violin solos, while songs and recitations were piven by Messrs G. Russell, J. P. Noonan, H. Edwards, T. Couper, Mrs F. O'Brien, Misses M. Stringer, and E. Maloney; a sketch by Miss B. Fanning and Mr J. P. Noonan was much appreciated, aa were the humorous eketohes of Messrs A. and H. Harrington and Davie. SEAMEN'S INSTITUTE SUMNER GUILD. The monthly meeting of the Sumner Guild of the Seamen's Institute waa held in the Council Cluimbers yesterday afternoon, when, in the a.bs:ncc of the president (Mrs G. V. C. Smithson), the Mayoress (Mrs J. B. Laureneon) presided over a very good attendance. The treasurer reported that the total proceeds of the Lighthouse collecting boxes amounted to £2 13s 3d, and this amount had been forwarded to Mr F. Anderson, tho treasurer of the Lyttelton Branch of the British and Foreign Sailore' Society. It was decided to give a concert at the Lyttelton Institute on th« first Thursday in providing sufficient ships were in port on that date"! A grant of £L was made towards the appeal for providing "ditty bags" for tile men in the Pyramus. Psyche, and Philomel. Mrs A. L. F Ledger and Mrs S. Harris reported on the hospital visiting for the past month, and undertook to continue visiting the sick seamen at the hospital. Votes of thanks were passed to Meedames Milne, Cross, and Bennett. for donations of magazines for sailors in the hospital.
